Hi steste! Great idea! diplomod
Idea Details
Light_on_a _watercan
Description
Light_on_a _watercan lamp creates an emotional link between energy waste and water consumption. It\'s an interactive and metaphoric object as you have actually to \"pour the light\" to turn it on (by using a mercury-free tilt switch)while when standing up it\' turned off.
Environmental awareness drove the whole design process: the chip-on-board led module chosen as light source provides high efficiency and low consumption, and every component can be easily disassembled for higher recyclability (just snap joints, no screws).

Good artistic statement... Excellent parallel. howman
Well I don\'t think it\'s an \"artistic\" statement, but I take it as a good thing! ehe my attempt was to provide a different kind of \"emotional link\" related to leds usage: not driven by feeligs and colours but related to energy consumption and iconic affordance of the product. You may want to consume less light as you would be doing with water. Anyway I think my concept could be deveolped further, I hope to hear something from you guys! cheers steste
I like IT! Here\'s why. People are disconnected at best from the world. A person trapped in an apartment in a big city where air is marginal at best...bumping into people...and everything else that comes with big city living. They work too hard, have to leave while it is dark and come home to the same...but they can pick up this watering device, go out to their little terrace, and water their garden and get reconnected to what is truly important. Nice design. How about we make it solar powered, 1 reuseable battery, and it only tips when you light it! Why do I think this will be used in a bar, and it would be filled with Vodak! LED Head
Er I meant it only lights when you tip it...sorry it has been a long day and I was working on a new idea for this website.... LED Head
Cool! very funny! :) Kris
I like the idea of pouring on light. cool concept Classic
Most LED controllers have an enable pin which only needs very little current. You could put two wires in the spout of the watering can so that they nearly touch. When water is poored through, the light will turn on. Just don\'t use distilled water! Nice design idea. JohnG
@JohnG - they don\'t even have to be that close together. I use a set up like that on my rain barrel. I have a 250 gallon barrel collecting water from my roof with a standard tap connected to a 12v pump. When the water reaches the top 6 inches, two metal prongs close a circuit and start the pump which waters the garden through a seeper hose. Once the water level reaches the lower two prongs it stops the pump. I am thinkin gof hooking the whole thing up as solar powered with a battery but just haven\'t had the time. It should be really simple to get this working. The real thing to consider is how to turn it off... Perhaps the best way to do this is to use a ball bearing switch to make a circuit. It would be the easiest. howman
The idea is very fine. I think it should be better as a portable lamp, so you don´t need to have a wood base orivas
