Chromatic Ball
Submitted17.06.2009
by Varribas
Description
Chromatic ball is an ambient light able to change the light color with the rotary movement.

Is made with RGB LEDs, by this features you can mix each color with different intensities getting the color you want. From now one you can chose the color light you need for your especial moments or moods.

The way to choose the color is easy as roll the ball in different ways. It has three axis made by three accelerometers, each one is connected to a color intensity value. Depending the way you turn the ball it will bright with a different color.

With an interface easy like that it can also be as a game for children or adults.

Have fun with chromatic ball

I understand changing the RGB color by 3 axis rotation, how would you turn the unit on and off and also adjust the intensity of the light? LED Head
But after all it not new idea... I at office now directly a reblast furnace have here such sphere with system RGB and similar fixtures are at many manufacturers...? kreativ-design
I think you could turn it on and off as well as adjust it\'s intensity the same way you use soft touch dimmers. Tap on-off hold for variable light... then roll the ball for colour. howman
But if it was touched based make sure there is a way to \"lock it down\" so everytime I pick it up, it doesn\'t start changing brightness levels once they are set. LED Head
HI, sorry, may be a didn\'t explained properly. The idea is that each accelerometer (3 in total) is conected to each color tonality (red, green and blue) with three axis in diferents ways you can know the sphere inclination by the gravity fixed axis(acceleration G). By these reason you can chose the intensity on each color doing the color you want. Also for switch it on/off you can assign an area inclination (quite big) as an off function and the rest as diferent color dependind the inclination. It should work as a Wii remote, iphone, harddrive sensors... etc. each position on the space is one value, each value is one color, the colors can be from three until Millions dependind the positions able to register. I hope I explained better... cheers! Varribas
And... Now it is theoretically clear in what a counter)) kreativ-design
Yes you did Varribas... I wonder if instead of using accelerometers, you could just use a simple x-y set up like an optical mouse and pass the information to the light inside the globe embedded in the power signal...? It would cost lots less. howman
Congratulations Varribas! Now we need to get to work. Maybe we can transfer this technology and make a really cool bowling ball for use during glow bowling! LOL! LED Head
Congratulations on moving forward to phase 2 howman
