pretty cool howman
Welcome LED Head! diplomod
if that is the case if ur yelling the amplitude would be high and if your happy the color would be yellow. if ur speaking softly and ur upset the amplitude would be low and the would be red. something of that sort. Good question though. Classic
Hey, I just wanted to tell you that you give great feedback. All of your comments are on point. Good Job! Classic
and another profile pic! Smiling as well - so it\'s true creativity makes happy ;) diplomod
Always! I have found that creative people for the most part are a happy bunch. That was an outside in the warm spring cooking picture. Cooking is my other passion. LED Head
Hello LED Head, Thanks for your advice about the LED Magazine article. I allready downloaded the pdf and will read it. Thanks!! burk
Wow, really? Its not out yet is it or are they just exploring the ideas of it? Classic
Thank you! Nazila
LED Head, why don´t you have a name OLED Head :)? durica
I have been following the OLED thing Durica and I recommend ledsmagazine, led-professional.com and ledjournal.com if you are interested in seeing what is happening. OLED\'s are really coming along! You have some great ideas that fit in really nice with that technology. LED Head
That\'s an idea! I do like the futuristic chess board Kings Knight 1 to kings rook 3 Thanks... scottfisher
ha ha.... any way it would be helpful for your teachers to find out whether you are active or not...so you cant cheat them telling that you understood the concept. pavithrabvs
here is the link where i found that a led glass is used to overcome jet lag. http://www.geekytraveller.com/fight-jet-lag-with-futuristic-led-glasses/ pavithrabvs
Thanks for the link LED Head
Thanks for your input! I didnt know photon boards, very cool. Love the pictures. However, my idea is quite different cause it is a flexible, movable light and not build in like the photon boards. So my idea can potentially be extended to other boarding and rolling devices. Not to mention the whole context of my idea and all the potential implementations I described go way beyond that. Read through my description text. Thanks LEDricc
LED HEAD-Congratulations!! pavithrabvs
Congratulations by the deserved award. HelferDesign
Congratulations LED Head. For all the fun banter back and forth, the competition from you to push harder was welcome. I look forward to Phase 2 and the challenge of having to come up with technical solutions to rival yours. Best luck. howman
congrats and best wishes to you :) durica
congratulations! Nazila
Thanks to everyone for a really great level of participation, sorry for the late reply, I was on (believe it or not)a short vacation. Now I am rested and ready for Phase 2! LED Head
:Yep. Phase 2 here we come. howman
Hi! The activity counters have been reseted though the number of your evaluations and ideas are displayed from both phases. We\'ll have a note added so its clear! Thanks for the hint!! diplomod
Winning ideas have not been necessarily chosen for phase II - only chromatic ball has been chosen with some questions. Thanks for asking! diplomod
congratulations. howman

Multi Function Timer
Description
In the spirit of doing more with less, I present a kitchen gadget with multiple functions. The function that always runs in the background when no other functions are required is the display shows the date and time and ambient temperature.

This unit has dual kitchen timers. The current problem with kitchen timers is you cannot see them from across a room and you have to walk over and see how much time is left. Often when cooking multiple things you need to add, stir, change heat levels or other tasks during the cooking process. The unit uses two RGB LED\\\'s that backlight the rear of the timer and will illuminate a wall or other surface. The LED\\\'s also shine brightly out of the top of the unit. Timer 1 lights up the left hand top side, timer 2 lights up the right hand top side. Both of these features are shown in the other pictures.

The color change in the timing sequence is as follows:

1. Whatever the total time is, it is divided into 4 equal portions. For example if the timer is set for an hour, the five lighting sequences would be 15 minutes each.
2. The timing starts out by lighting up white. When the first timing increment is 1/2 finished (7.5 minutes in this example)the white light will begin a flash pattern, with the pattern getting faster as it approaches the end of its time period.
3. The unit will then shine blue, flash after half of its time period.
4. The unit will then shine green and then finally the final cycle is yellow.
5. When the time has counted down, the LED will turn RED.

The next feature of this unit is the ability to plug in one or two temperature probes into the side of the unit. You can then set desired temperature.

In this mode, you will be notified of the internal cooking temperature with colors also, however, they are not just the RGB or white. The color will start out a deep blue when the thermometer is cold, and shift through colors as the probe warms up...It will go from a deep blue to a lighter blue, to a deep green to a lighter green, to a deep yellow to a lighter yellow and finally to white. If the temperature is exceeded it will turn red and as the exceeded temperature escalates, the unit will flash the LED in a deeper red color.

The nice thing is that you can combine one of each function, and use this unit as a timer and a temperature probe at the same time.

The last function this unit has may come in handy if you are maybe outside at night grilling, or maybe like me, there is no light in your oven. If this unit is picked up and tilted the functions will continue to work correctly in the background, but the two bright leds will turn white and allow you to use the unit in \\\"Flashlight\\\" mode.

When the unit is turned vertical once more, the LED\\\'s go back to displaying the current status of the timers and or temperature probes.

You could think about using colour to denote time left to cooking. Say, when you first start out a meal the timer shows as red and as it get closer to being finished cooking it changes through orange, yellow to green. this way you can avoid the pitfall of having to have a huge display and can address the fact that a large part of the population has failing eyesight. They may not be able to read something from across the room, but they can see a coloured light. Granted there is a segment of the pop that is colour blind, but you can adjust your colours accordingly. You could also use some form of projection to project the time onto the wall or ceiling providing a coloured clock or countdown timer that is huge. howman
@howman: You suggest it should indicate the time left - I thought that\'s the first function anyway - or I did not get it... Anyway, good idea - most important for me would be the possibility to take it easily to another room. diplomod
Yes, I got that too, but I read that the light was only used as a back light and not as an indication of something. Very good... transportability is an excellent point. I think there are digital timers that you put on your fridge with a magnet that are for this purpose, but having the interconnectivity and updatability of sensors within the stove or oven would be a great improvement over these dollar store timers. howman
The \"backlight\" idea would project the current timer and/or thermometer status outward towards a wall or other object, while the light piping at the top would project the same color information upwards. Thanks for the comments, the one about portability would be a great idea for the thermometers if you could put a remote thermometer in a piece of meat grilling outside and have it send the status to the main timer unit that you could bring back inside would be awesome. Not sure yet about the cost adder for that, but I don\'t think it is that much... LED Head
Also add the function of temperature versus meat type you are cooking because beef has to be less done than pork which has to be less done than chicken and so on. LED Head
I think that you are onto something with the colour to represent if the food is safe to eat... too many people don\'t know how to cook food properly. howman
I just read an article on how many food borne illnesses are being tied to how much we over processes chickens. Oh, I just had a new idea I have to post... LED Head
